Australia’s largest privately-owned museum, you could easily spend a whole day exploring the property. It's simply one of the most alternative, unpredictable, mouth-dropping, artistic spaces around. With little nooks and crannies to explore in the building, a random library, delicious dining options, a vineyard, regular live music on the lawns, and fully stocked bars, there is just so much to do. This iconic place to visit while you’re in Hobart will keep you entertained for hours even during those rainy days.
MONA, the Museum of Old and New Art is located on Hobart’s River Derwent at Berriedale only a 15-minute drive north from our Hotel. The museum is open Thursday to Monday from 10 am to 5 pm however it is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. If you don’t have a car, why not take yourself just across the road to the docks where ferries regularly depart for MONA at the Brooke Street Pier.
Take the MONA ROMA out for a unique day experience that is sure to be one you tell your friends about. Hotel Grand Chancellor Hobart is the best location to stay within walking distance to the ferry to MONA. The ferry (The MR1) is only a 5-minute walk away across the Hobart docks from the Hotel. To book the ferry, go to https://mona.net.au/visit/ferry-to-mona for more details and a full timetable of both departures and returns back to Hobart.

Created by the same masterminds as MONA, this wicked Winter festival known as Dark MOFO is run annually as a celebration of light and dark centered on the Winter Solstice. Live music, street performances, feasting, and everything weird and wonderful - even hosting a nude swim (make sure you bring your speedos). Dark MOFO is held in winter each year and the Hotel Grand Chancellor Hobart is conveniently located on the waterfront, right in the thick of it all.
