Port Douglas
Port Douglas, a more laid back town compared to Cairns, is also a great starting point for exploring the region's many attractions. It is also the closest mainland port to the Great Barrier Reef and only a short drive into the Wet Tropics Rainforest. Just a 40 minute scenic drive from Palm Cove, it makes a great day trip due to the local's appreciation of good food, wine, arts and culture.
