Sir Thomas Planetarium

Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium Mt Coot-tha

Look up and explore the universe at the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium, set within Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt Coot-tha. At its centre is the 12.5-metre Cosmic Skydome, where immersive full-dome shows bring the night sky, planets and distant galaxies to life.

Entry to the Planetarium is free, with astronomy displays to explore at your own pace, plus a mini-theatre and observatory for telescope viewing sessions. The venue is named after Sir Thomas Brisbane, the astronomer and NSW Governor.

Cosmic Skydome shows run to a session timetable and can book out, so it’s worth booking ahead. The Planetarium is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm, plus Mondays during Queensland school holidays. From Hotel Grand Chancellor Brisbane, drive up to Mt Coot-tha and pair your visit with a wander through the surrounding Botanic Gardens or the lookout, a five-minute drive further up the hill.
