Birrarung Marr

Birrarung Marr is an 8.3-hectare riverside park between Federation Square and Melbourne Park, 15 minutes’ walk from Hotel Grand Chancellor Melbourne. Along the Yarra River, it combines lawns, walking paths, public art and family spaces close to the city centre.
Its name comes from the Woiwurrung language of the Wurundjeri people: ‘birrarung’ means ‘river of mists’, while ‘marr’ relates to the river’s edge.

Across three terraces, look out for Deborah Halpern’s colourful Angel sculpture and the Federation Bells, 39 bells that play commissioned compositions throughout the day.

Birrarung Marr also hosts ArtPlay, with creative experiences for children of all ages. The William Barak Bridge leads toward the MCG and tennis precinct, while major events including Moomba regularly bring the park to life.
