Celebrating 15 Years of Hotel Grand Chancellor Adelaide

November 2024

This month, Hotel Grand Chancellor Adelaide celebrated an extraordinary milestone—15 years of welcoming guests, creating unforgettable memories, and being a proud part of the Adelaide community.

Back in 2009, the year of Barack Obama’s inauguration, the launch of Windows 7, and MasterChef Australia’s first season, Grand Hotels International took over the Holiday Inn on Hindley Street and transformed it into the Hotel Grand Chancellor Adelaide. Fast forward to today, and we’ve proudly hosted 1.5 million guests, served 1.2 million eggs, and gone through 16,500km of toilet paper (enough to cover 386 marathons!).

A Celebration Like No Other

Our 15th birthday was a vibrant celebration held on our pool deck. Adorned with colorful lanterns and balloons, the space came alive as guests arrived in their best party attire, from bold blues to vibrant pinks. The festivities kicked off with a Community Canvas art activity, symbolising the diversity and vibrancy of our culture and community.

The night featured nostalgic tunes and modern hits from live band Two for One and a specially curated menu crafted by our Executive Chef. Each dish represented a different year of our journey, including playful nods like butter chicken served in takeaway bags during the “Covid Era.”

Reflecting on Our Journey

General Manager Tony Scrivener shared heartfelt reflections on the hotel’s history and a few fun facts:

  • Over the years, 324 dedicated team members have been part of our story.
  • Our commitment to sustainability and innovation has shaped our reputation as one of Adelaide’s most iconic hotels.

A Night to Remember: Launch of Our New Conference Catering Concept

At the Hotel Grand Chancellor Adelaide, we always strive to provide exceptional experiences for our guests. Our new Conference Catering Concept is in full swing, and we are proud of what we have created! After months of collaboration and innovation, we celebrated its implementation with an official launch event held on 16 May 2024 in our Hindley Ballroom.

 

The evening was the introduction of an innovative new concept with the focus on providing a fresh, healthy and nourishing meal ensuring delegates feel energised and invigorated throughout the day. This concept captures the essence of South Australia’s rich culinary landscape, where tradition meets modernity in a celebration of regional flavours and home-grown produce, our commitment to support some of the finest South Australian local businesses.

 

At the launch, our guests were taken on a Grand Tour of South Australia where the Hotel Grand Chancellor Adelaide team opened the festivities with a theatrical introduction of five iconic regions, each displaying our new daily Nourish Bowl Buffets. This included:

The Adelaide Hills provided a perfect end to our grand tour. Where vibrant autumn foliage and a history of early German settlers and apple farmers create a comforting, rustic ambiance. Our menu offers the zest of artisanal producers, transporting you to a simpler time.

The evening was filled with vibrant energy as guests mingled, networked, and enjoyed the delicious new concept in our Hindley Ballroom, featuring colourful South Australian region-themed décor. Dishes were prepared by our chefs from various SA regions, a feast for the senses!

 

Complementing the evening was live music by Honey and Lemon, as well as Encore Event Technologies wowing the guests with a truly memorable display of their technology capabilities.
